The basic configuration of the Savana includes front and side airbags, a dynamic stability system, tire pressure sensors, 17-inch wheels, air conditioning, an audio system, and other equipment, the list of which can be significantly expanded for an additional fee.

The Savana Passenger has an extensive engine lineup. Depending on the version and type of drive, it can be equipped with a 4.3-liter V6 engine with 195 hp at 4600 rpm, a 4.8-liter V8 with 280 hp at 5200 rpm, a 5.3-liter V8 with 310 hp at 5200 rpm, as well as 6.0- and 6.6-liter units with 324 and 260 hp, respectively. The latter engine is a turbodiesel. The engines are paired, again depending on the version, with either a 4-speed or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Production of the GMC Savana Cargo is established at the General Motors plant in the U.S. state of Missouri. Together, the Savana and Chevrolet Express account for almost 45% of sales in their segment. In some countries, the vehicle is used for medical and police needs, as well as a school bus.
